The results are in: In response to my last President’s Post and concurrent email in which I attempted to recruit members to assume volunteer positions in order to keep IWOC alive, the grand total of those who volunteered to volunteer is (drum roll please)…none! That’s right. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Not for any committee, any board, any office. Anything.
I did get a handful of responses that expressed their sadness should IWOC head into the sunset. I empathize with their sentiments. But it still doesn’t change the outcome.
So now it’s on to Plan B: an experimental, short-termed social media and ad campaign blitz to recruit new members. New members who will help launch IWOC into a new direction and out of which a whole set of eager volunteers will emerge. Here’s hoping.
But for now, I’d like to cede the rest of my space here to Jim Kepler. Responding to my recruitment post, he sent what could possibly be the best endorsement of IWOC, itemizing how well it served him for over 40 years. By extrapolation, we can understand how IWOC serves all writers. In essence, Jim’s testimonial offers the most cogent of reasons as to why IWOC must survive.
