Freelance writers face legal and business issues that can interrupt work flow, leading to delays and unexpected costs. At the March IWOC meeting, you will learn how to write and negotiate better contract terms, clarify ownership and usage rights to your content, protect your trademark, get permission for existing work and images, avoid defamation and privacy claims, post responsibility in social media and more.

Our March program speaker is Marci Rolnik Walker, legal director of Lawyers for the Creative Arts. Marci will present current information on pressing legal questions impacting the publishing industry, and will field questions as well.

Networking, with snacks and beverages, begins at 5:00 p.m., followed by the program at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting is free for IWOC members. Non-members pay $10 with online preregistration/payment or $15 at the door.

All attendees are welcome to join us after the meeting for a buy-your-own dinner at nearby Tempo Café!

Meeting Location

IWOC monthly meetings are held in Room 4F at the Gratz Center, 126 E. Chestnut Street, adjacent to the historic Fourth Presbyterian Church (see map, below).

Discounted parking after 5:00pm is available (with validation coupon available at the meeting) at 900 N. Michigan Avenue.
